So, you finally got around to planning your summer adventure and you are so excited! But you are soon let down by the lack of availability in your destination. Recently, I struggled big time trying to find the ideal spot in Zion National Park. Either every site I liked was already booked or the ones available were not my jam. So, a friend suggested hipcamp.com. And bam...I found a gem of a spot on a rancher's property. It DID NOT disappoint and in fact, all four of us plan on returning at some point. Now my brother is working on his plans in San Francisco and he is having the same problem. Hipcamp had some cool spots, but another friend suggested campedium.com. They have some great spots...free and reservable. Perfect! Another website I come across is ioverlander.com.
Of course, websites like reserveamerica and state parks are a great place to start.
Things have changed and it is definitely harder to be spontaneous these days but it CAN be done.
